Sambalpur: Flood water is being discharged through 20 sluice gate in Hirakud Dam of Sambalpur district in Odisha, said reports on Sunday.
It is to be noted that earlier nine gates on the left side and five gates on the right side were opened. Today the water level at Hirakud dam rose and hence the authorities decided to open six more gates.
The world’s longest dam Hirakud had released the first flood water of 2024 recently on July 28, after the water level increased in the upper catchment area due to continuous rain. As many as 20 gates of the dam were opened after the ceremonial puja.
Hirakud Reservoir authorities have further informed that more Hirakud sluice gates might open if the water level in the upper catchment area rises due to continuous rain. Presently water is being discharged through 20 gates, said reports.
