Voting for Brajarajnagar by-election begins
Jharsuguda: The voting for the Brajarajnagar by-election has begun at 7 am on Tuesday. Reportedly, the elections will take place till 6 pm today.
The fate of 11 candidates, including Alka Mohanty of the BJD, Radharani Panda of the BJP, and Kishore Patel of the Congress, will be decided by a total of 2,14,898 voters.
As many as 1,228 polling officers, including those reserved for voting, have been deployed in the booths.
At least three companies to the central police team and 970 security personnel have been deployed in the polling booths to maintain law and order.
Out of 279 total voting booths, 60 sensitive booths have been identified. Webcasting will take place in 50 percent of the booths. Webcasting will take place in 50 percent of the booths. The vote counting and results will be published on June 3.
Sanitizers and thermal scanners have been provided at each booth. Special arrangements have been made for the heat flow across Odisha.
It is pertinent to mention that after the sad demise of former Brajrajnagar MLA Kishore Mohanty, this MLA seat was lying vacant. The former Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly and former MLA Mohanty died due to a heart attack in December 2021 at the age of 63.
Mohanty first became the MLA for the Jharsuguda Assembly constituency in 1990 from the Janata Dal. Later, he won from the same constituency twice in 2000 and 2009 with Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ticket.
