Two govt functionaries convicted in corruption cases
As many as two government functionaries have been convicted in two corruption cases that were filed in Koraput and Kalahandi districts by the Odisha vigilance.
Koraput/Kalahandi: As many as two government functionaries have been convicted in two corruption cases that were filed in Koraput and Kalahandi districts by the Odisha vigilance.
The two officials who were conceited in corruption cases are Ramesh Chandra Sahoo and Padmanav Rout, informed the Vigilance department.
Ramesh Chandra Sahoo, the Ex-BDO of Narayanpatna Block in Koraput (Retired), who was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c)(d) PC Act,1988/409/120-B IPC, for misappropriation of Govt. money meant for developmental works in Borgi GP under Narayanpatna Block, DistKoraput, was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and fine of Rs 50,000.
Earlier, Sahoo was convicted on 21.03.2024 by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore for misappropriation of Government money without executing the work i.e. construction work of two Anganbadi centers.
Sanjaya Kumar Pradhan, the Ex-Inspector of Vigilance, Koraput Division had investigated the case and Sashidhar Pattnaik, Spl. P.P, Vigilance, Jeypore conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
Likewise, Padmanav Rout, the former Junior Engineer (JE) of Golamunda Block in Kalahandi district (Retired), who was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) PC Act,1988/468/471/420/120-B IPC, for abusing his official power by using corrupt and illegal means and presenting inflated measurement, false bills & vouchers and using the same as genuine in causing loss to the Govt. under Food for Work programme, was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and fine of Rs.10,000.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Padmanav Rout following his conviction.
Ex-Inspector, Vigilance, Koraput Division, Rabindra Kumar Pradhan had investigated the case while Surendra Panda, Special public persecutor, Vigilance, Berhampur conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
