Two arrested with two elephant tusks in Angul

The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Forest Department has reportedly arrested two persons after seizing two elephant tusks from their possessions in Angul district.

Angul: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Forest Department has reportedly arrested two persons after seizing two elephant tusks from their possessions in Angul district.

The arrested accused persons have been identified as Chandan Mohapatra of Jadupur village and Sarat Kumar Kheti of Jirat village of Angul district. Two elephant tusks weighing 4 kg 795 gram were seized from their possessions.

On the basis of intelligence input, the STF conducted a raid at Jadupur village near Pathapantha Niwas under Athamallik police station limits of the district yesterday evening against illegal dealing of elephant tusk by the wild life criminals and apprehended them.

During search, two elephant tusk weighing 4 kg 795 gram containing in a sack and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from their conscious possession.

As the accused persons could not produce any valid license or authority in support of such possession of Elephant Tusks with them, they were arrested and is being forwarded to the Athamallik Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court.

In this connection, STF PS Case No. 21 dt. 16.10.2025 U/s. 303(2)/317(2)/61(2)(a) Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 r/w. Sec.51 of Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 has been registered.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
