Truck driver arrested hours after beating shopkeeper to death with iron rod in Keonjhar 

Keonjhar: The accused truck driver who beat a shopkeeper to death with an iron rod in Odisha’s Keonjhar district yesterday has been reportedly arrested today. He has been identified as Narendra Jena.

A team of cops from Ramchandrapur Police Station in Keonjhar district arrested Jena from the Mankadakenda area of Jajpur district today.

Earlier yesterday, Jena reportedly arrived with his truck for some work at the garage which is situated next to Maa Laxmi Variety Store, owned by Dilip Behera.

Jena went to Behera’s shop to purchase some things and made payments through cash. He waited to get the balanced cash. In the meantime, the shopkeeper was busy speaking with another man. However, he got angry as the truck driver repeatedly asked for his due money.

Soon a heated argument ensued between the duo, which turned ugly when Jena took out the iron rod, that he had kept in his truck, and attacked Behera’s head with it.

Behera was being shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as he sustained grievous injuries following the attack. Unfortunately, he died before reaching the hospital for treatment.

Later, the Ramchandrapur Police started an investigation based on the complaint filed by the deceased shopowner’s family members and arrested the accused truck driver today.

Currently, the arrestee is undergoing police interrogation over the incident.
