Apart from holding discussion with them, Pradhan addressed the teachers who have been on dharna for the last five days and said that dependency on government schools in a state like Odisha is very high. The teachers must get their legitimate dues as they are the craftsmen of the society, he added.
Demanding fulfillment of their various demands, more than 50,000 block grant teachers and lecturers launched their dharna under the banner of Odisha School College Teachers and Employees Joint Forum.
Abolition of the block grant system, equal salary for equal work, salary as per 7th pay commission recommendations, provision of full aid, government takeover of all aided schools are some of their demands.
