Supreme Court makes TET mandatory for teachers: Know what will be the fate of teachers in Odisha
The Supreme Court of India has made it mandatory for the teachers to clear the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) mandatory for them to continue their services.
Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court of India has made it mandatory for the teachers to clear the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) mandatory for them to continue their services. This decision has now become a matter of great concern and worry for the teachers across the country.
Similarly, the teachers in Odisha also are in a state of anxiety following the decision of the apex court as they do not know what will be their fate in coming days. However, in what can be considered as a relief for them, the Odisha government will analyze the court’s ruling for teachers both in appointments and continuance in service, informed School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond.
While speaking exclusively to Kalinga TV, the School and Mass Education Minister said that the state government will analyze the court’s ruling and closely watch its implementation in other states before taking a final decision in this regard.
The minister further said that there is a need to look at the interests of the teachers as well and while implementing the court’s order the teachers’ interests will be given importance by considering all aspects.
It is to be noted here that the Supreme Court yesterday made TET mandatory for teachers to continue their services. As per the court’s decision teachers who were appointed before the implementation of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, (RTE Act) and have more than five years of services will have to clear the TET within two years to continue their services and get promotions, failing which they will lose their jobs. However, the teachers who have less than five years of service left need not to clear the TET, but they won’t get promotion.
Likewise, the aspiring teachers mandatorily have to pass the TET before applying for teaching jobs in Classes 1 to 8.
However, the court has made it clear that the TET requirement will not be implemented for teachers in minority schools until a larger bench decides on the issue of implementation of the RTE Act in those schools.
