State Tele Award winner, Kalinga TV’s “Kanduri Jeje” Ayas Kanta Swain dies while delivering dialogue during rehearsal

Bhubaneswar: Veteran Odia cine artiste, state cine award winner Ayas Kanta Swain, who is famous as “Kanduri Jeje” for his daily program at Kalinga TV died due to heart attack in Puri today. He was 52.

Ayas Kanta had gone to Puri for a stage program. However, he fell to the ground all of a sudden while delivering his dialogue during the rehearsal of the program this afternoon.

His co-artistes immediately rushed Ayas Kanta Swain to Puri District Headquarter Hospital for treatment. However, doctors who attended him declared him brought dead.

Odisha’s premier news channel Kalinga TV’s ‘Dekh Khabar Rakh Nazar’ programme bagged three prestigious awards in the State Tele Awards-17, which was declared by the Cultural Department of Odisha government here on Monday.

It is to be noted here that Ayas Kanta Swain is the only man behind the informative and humorous “Kanduri Jeje” program at Kalinga TV. For this program, he himself used to select social issues and current events, particularly in the context of Odisha, write the scripts and act in double role so brilliantly that the program became immensely popular among the TV audience across the State. During the COVID pandemic, the program was named as “Corona Jeje.”

Through his witty but informative comedy, Ayas Kanta used to bring smile on the face of people when they were cornered with all fear, anxiety and tension due to the COVID pandemic. Be it as “Corona Jeje” or “Kanduri Jeje,” everyone highly appreciated him for his flawless and versatile acting skills. For this, he received several awards from different organizations.

Ayaskant Swain’s most popular show ‘Dekh Khabar Rakh Nazar’ also had bagged three prestigious awards in the State Tele Awards-17 in 2017. It won awards in Best Comedy Show, Best Dialogue and Best Comedian categories. While Ayaskant Swain received the “Best Screenplay Award” for the show, Satya Ranjan Mishra and Satyabrata Panigrahy received the ‘Best Comedian Award’ for the popular comedy show.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended among the employees of Kalinga TV, Odia cine artistes and his fans following the sudden and unfortunate death of Ayaskant Swain.

Kalinga TV founder Achyuta Samanta condoled the sad demise of Ayaskant Swain and expressed his solace to his bereaved family members. Likewise, Kalinga TV’s Managing Director Himansu Khatua, Chief Editor Soumyajit Pattnaik expressed their deep condolence over his death.
