Bhubaneswar: The dawn to dusk Odisha Bandh by Congress and BJP not only paralysed normal life but also made the city roads a litter zone. Roads across the city were seen with burnt tyres, empty water bottles, cans, paper, wooden logs. However, members of ‘SANKALP’, an organization of volunteers were fastidious enough to clean the roads. The volunteers aimed to clean the whole city by the evening.
They carried out the cleanliness drive on the roads sending a message among the protesters to avoid polluting the environment while observing bandh. The members of SANKALP urged the demonstrators not to burn tyres and use anything that would pollute the environment.
“We do not oppose anyone observing bandh. However, we want the strike to be peaceful and pollution free. We have started this cleaning drive to create awareness among the protesters about the importance of keeping the environment clean. We request them not to burn tyres and litter the city road during the bandh,” said Santosh Kumar Sethi, President of SANKALP.
