Bhubaneswar: Citizens of Odisha have heaved a sigh of relief after several days of humid and sweltering heat as parts of state have been experiencing thundershowers and winds on Sunday which has also helped in bringing down the rising temperatures.
Also, further good news is the predictions from India Meteorological Department (IMD), that southwest monsoon is likely to enter state anytime between June 14-17, making everyone hopeful about reduced humidity and ample rainfall which would be a boon for the farmers.
However, there are a few precautions and alert warnings. Orange alerts have been issued by IMD for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri districts for thundershowers accompanied by lightning and 50-60 kmph wind. Yellow alerts are for all other districts and 40-50 kmph wind is predicted.
The change in weather is due to combination of dry hot winds from northwest and moist air from the Bay of Bengal.
Coastal areas including Bhubaneswar witnessed 36-40 degree C and it helped in reducing it and therefore the weather is not much humid and hot.
Warnings have been issued to fishermen on northern coast against going to the sea due to bad weather predictions.
IMD had earlier forecasted below normal rainfall this year and especially for northern and southern part of state. The prediction has already instilled a lot of worry amongst farmers as they prepare for kharif crops.
Authorities have requested all to stay indoor and keep themselves, live stocks and crops safe and prevent venturing out during lightning, or thunderstorm.
