Reports say hundreds of locals, under the aegis of Patnagarh Adivasi Sangh, gathered at the railway station this morning and resorted to sloganeering against the railway department and appealed to the government to take steps to set up a new railway route from Bolangir to Nuapada via Patnagarh and Khaprakhol. The agitators intercepted several freight carriers passing through the route for quite some time by sitting on the railway tracks during the protest.
Apart from the Adivasi Sangh, members of the Bolangir Citizens Forum and some other organizations from the area also took part in the ‘rail roko’.
To avert any possible trouble at the railway station, Kantabanji police rushed three platoons of force to the spot to maintain law and order.
