Ragging allegations in NLUO, 17 students directed to stay out of hostel by college authorities

Cuttack: There have been ragging allegations in NLUO (National Law University Odisha) in Cuttack, said reports on Sunday in this regard. There has been ragging allegation by a first year student against fifth year students.

Some fifth year students have been accused of ragging and a complaint has been filed in the CDA Phase 2 police station. The authorities of the College have reached the Phase 2 police station regarding this incident and discussed with the authorities. The police has started investigating the matter.

The authorities have ordered as many as 17 hostel inmates of the fifth year of the college to stay outside the hostel. The police have started an investigation into the matter after a complaint in this matter by the Chancellor of the University. The disciplinary committee of the university will meet on the August 27. Final action will be taken against the concerned students after the investigation by the police and the disciplinary committee.

Till then the concerned students will stay out of the college hostel and only attend classes. It has been instructed by the University that they cannot talk or mingle with any other students. After the incident, the accused students were asked to leave the hotels by 5 pm on Saturday.

According to police information on the night of August 17, some fifth year students of the University wandered out of the campus and returned to the campus at around 12:00 pm. Later, the students danced inside the campus with songs played aloud on a sound box. Meanwhile, a few others went inside and reached Hostel No. 2, where the first year students were living. Later they allegedly ragged the students on the terrace by asking them to dance. The situation became tense following this. On hearing the news, the hostel warden and the hostel superintendent arrived and reprimanded the fifth year students.

The controversy was escalated till such an extent that the Chancellor of the university and the police had tp be called upon. On the direction of the Chancellor, a complaint was filed. Later it was reported that three fifth year students stopped and threatened some first year students inside the campus. These students then complained to the warden. the warden in turn filed a complaint in this regard with the police.

A case has been filed against 17 students of the fifth year for ragging the first year students. Zone ACP Raut informed that the investigation is underway relating to the two ragging allegations in NLUO. It has been reported that the University authorities have ordered that the said 20 students cannot stay in the hostel until the committee’s inspection is completed and the report is submitted.
