Puri Dog bite case: Orissa High Court directs Rs 10 Lakh Compensation for victim’s family

Orissa HC ordered Puri Municipality to pay compensation of Rs 10 lakh to family of a four-year-old child killed in dog bite in 2016

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Wednesday ordered Puri Municipality to pay compensation of Rs 10 lakh to family of a four-year-old child killed in dog bite in 2016 in Jagannath Colony of the district.

In the year 2016, a four-year-old was attacked and mauled by some stray dogs in Puri.

Later, a petition was filed before the Orissa High Court related to the incident.

The Puri Municipality submitted that there is no provision in the Municipality act to provide compensation to the victim’s family.

The Executive officer of the Puri Muncipality informed that after he took charge of the office, steps have been initiated by the civic body to sterilize the stray dogs in the area.

The victim’s family had received Rs 30,000 from Odisha’s Chief Minister relief fund and Rs 20,000 from Red Cross Society during the hearing of the matter.
