Puri: 2-Month-Old Shivansh Becomes Youngest Daitapati Servitor, Performs Anasara Seva of Lord Jagannath, Watch
Though the children are too young to understand the nuances of seva and rituals, their father said they will carry forward the family tradition of devotion and service to Mahaprabhu in the years ahead.
Puri: In a rare and heartwarming moment, 2-month and 26-day-old Shivansh Dasmahapatra has become the youngest Daitapati servitor to serve Lord Jagannath during the Anasara period.
On the 7th day of Anasara, known as ‘Osha Lagi’, the infant, dressed in a traditional makuta and Daitapati attire, entered Srimandira, the famous Lord Jagannath temple in Puri of Odisha, along with his grandfather and father. He crossed the Anasara taati and offered pauna bhoga to the deities on the Anasara pindi, and also partook of chakata bhoga.
With this, he earned the recognition of being the youngest Daitapati servitor.
Shivansh is son of Suryakanta Dasmahapatra of Daitapati servitor Shivprasad Dasmahapatra’s family. According to Daitapati tradition, children are considered Daitas 21 days after birth and take part in the secret seva of the Lord inside the Anasara ghara. From Panchami tithi of Anasara, or the day after Phuluri Tela Lagi, these young Daitas join the rituals.
The baby was brought to the temple to participate in the secret service as Mahaprabhu is believed to be unwell with fever after the elaborate bathing ritual on Snana Purnima and remains in seclusion in the Anasara chamber.
Another infant, Jaswashi Dasmahapatra, 8 months old and son of Shubhakanta Dasmahapatra, also took part as a young servitor.
