Prohibitory order under BNSS imposed in Khurda after youth’s murder, know what is not allowed

Khurda: District police today imposed the prohibitory order under section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarika Surakhaya Sanhita (BNSS) in some wards under the Town Police station limits in Khurda following the murder of a youth.

One Shaikh Sajid was allegedly hacked to death in Mouza Mukundaprasad by a group of miscreants over past enmity while he was returning home from the market. Soon, he was rushed to the Khurda District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) for treatment. However, he breathed his last while undergoing treatment.

Tension prevailed in the area when the news of his death spread some irate locals damaged over 20 vehicles forcing the district administration to deploy security forces. The situation was such that Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania and Director Intelligence Soumendra Priyadarshi reached the spot and took stock of the situation. The DGP appealed the people not to take the law into hands and advised them to maintain peace in the area.

Later, with the aim to avoid any untoward incident, the district administration imposed the prohibitory order under section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarika Surakhaya Sanhita (BNSS) in Ward number- 2, 21, 22 and parts of ward number 1 and 3. The prohibitory order will continue till the next order is issued in this regard.

Know what is not allowed when the prohibitory order is in force:

  • Assembly of five or more persons in any public place without permission
  • Public rally, procession, demonstration, dharna, shouting slogans etc in public areas
  • Obstruction to public road, highways, footpath and normal movement of traffic etc by any means
  • Carrying of lethal weapons and arms in public places including lathis, spears, swords etc
  • Carrying of any kind of inflammable object including fire marshal, burning of tyre, burning of effigies by any individual of group of person at any public place, road, in front of any offices/buildings
  • Bursting or throwing of crackers etc on the street or public or on moving or stationary vehicles
  • Using of loud speakers without prior permission
  • Schools/AWC/College (Govt & Pvt)/ Commercial establishment in the said location shall remain closed

However, some emergency services are allowed during this period. They include opening of fuel station, health institutions and medicine stores.
