Principal suspended for beating up and injuring class 2 student in Odisha
A school principal has been suspended for beating up and injuring a class 2 student in Balangir district of Odisha
Titlagarh: In a shocking incident, a teacher has been suspended for beating up a second standard student badly. The beating was so bad that the boy was allegedly bleeding.
The incident has been reported to have taken place in the Tikrapara Government Primary School in Saintala Block under Titlagarh of Balangir district in Odisha.
On July 31, the principal of the school, Hemanjali Hota, had beaten a student of class 2 of the school and made him bleed. Later, the student and his guardian approached the Saintala police, the Balangir SP and the District Collector regarding this matter.
An investigation was conducted into this matter and on the orders of the District Education Department, the teacher was suspended from work.
Recently, the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Odapada in Dhenkanal district suspended an Assistant Teacher of the Government U.P. School at Siminai on charges of beating a Class VI student during school hours.
Odapada BEO P.K. Kallo suspended Assistant Teacher Sandhyarani Kandi, who beat a student on Friday (April 11, 2025) resulting in head injury. The incident had caused massive resentment among the students and their parents who had staged a protest demanding action against her.
Kandi’s suspension was enacted under the provisions of Clause (2) of Rule-12 of the Orissa Civil Services (Classification, Control & Appeal) Rules, 1962.
“As the appointing authority, in exercise of powers conferred by the aforementioned rule, Smt. Sandhyarani Kandi is placed under suspension with immediate effect,” stated an order issued by the Block Education Officer.
The BEO’s order also revealed that during the suspension period, Kandi’s headquarters will be at the Odapada Block Education Office and she has been prohibited from leaving it without prior approval from the concerned competent authority.
This apart, the teacher is entitled to subsistence allowance in accordance with Rule 90 of the Orissa Service Code.
