New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Padma Shri on three eminent personalities from Odisha during the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Charan Hembram, Simanchal Patra and Sarat Kumar Patra the three eminent personalities from Odisha who received the Padma Shri today.
Charan Hembram (Literature & Education):
- A dedicated Santali (Ol Chiki) educationist and cultural activist, he has institutionalized the Santali language by founding several Ol Itun Asras (educational centers) and promoting Santal opera groups.
Simanchal Patra (Art):
- Known as the ‘Vishma Pitamaha’ of Prahalad Natak-a traditional folk theatre showcasing Mahabharata narratives-the 98-year-old maestro continues to keep the art form alive by inspiring and training the younger generation.
Shri Sarat Kumar Patra (Art):
- A master weaver who has elevated Odisha’s traditional Ikat craft. His legendary works include a monumental “Dash-Avatar” wall hanging featuring Gitagobinda slokas, and the extra-weft Konark textile.
