Picnic-party to Koraput turns fatal as 1 dead, 11 injured in Gajapati Ghats

Gajapati: In an untoward situation, a picnic-party turned dreadful for a family as one among them died and 11 others were injured as their van (Traveller) overturned due to losing balance in the Kendughati in Mohana region early on Sunday morning around 4:00 am. The family was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Koraput.

According to information, the reckless driving of the driver despite dense fog caused him to lose balance in the Ghats resulting in the tragic accident.

The deceased has been identified as Sarojini Behera of Chahali in Nayagarh. 14 members of a family of Saranakula and Chadheyapali area in Nayagarh district planned to go for a vacation to Koraput to enjoy the winters when the tragic accident occurred and one died on the spot and 11 others were injured.

Among the injured are four women and two children. Out of the injured three are critical. All of them were rushed to the nearby community health centre while the injured were referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur.

The locals informed the fire brigade who rushed to the spot to rescue the vehicle.
