Balasore: Vigilance directorate on Wednesday arrested the absconding Cuttack SCB Clinical Haematology Department head, Dr Rabindra Kumar Jena near Laxmannath check-gate, on charges of amassing properties disproportionate to his known sources of income.
A team of anti-corruption bureau conducted a raid late in the night after getting a tip-off on Jena’s whereabouts and nabbed him while trying to cross the check-gate which is located on Odisha-West Bengal border boarding a car.
Jena, the main accused in Odisha State Treatment Fund (OSTF) scam is accused of generating huge sum of money by availing junkets from pharmaceutical companies along with another Dr Sudha Sethy. He is also accused of showing undue favour to those companies by prescribing costly drugs to patients causing loss to State Government.
After allegations of OSTF scam surfaced against Jena, the Vigilance conducted raids on Jena’s residence on November 22 this year. During the raid DA worth Rs 4 Cr were traced from his possession. However the Vigilance officials failed to arrest him as he went underground following the crackdown.
Dr Sudha is currently cooling her heels in Choudwar Jail and has been put under judicial custody till December 26, after her arrest on December 13.
