Odisha’s shame: Yet another body carried on shoulders

Sorada: In yet another incident that speaks volumes about the poor state of health services in Odisha, two men carried the body of their kin on their shoulders due to the unavailability of a hearse vehicle at the government hospital on Wednesday.

According to reports, one Bhanumati Nayak of Sarisbili village was admitted to the Sorada Community Health Centre this morning. However, she breathed her last while undergoing treatment at the government hospital.

Following the death of the elderly lady, her family members requested the medical staff to provide a hearse vehicle or an ambulance to carry the mortal remains of Nayak. But they had to carry the body on their shoulders and walk for two kilometers to reach their home as the medical staff allegedly failed to provide any vehicle.

The incident has created anger among the people of the area and raised a question over the health services provided by the state government.
