Odisha to see respite from rainfall from today, Yellow alert issued to 6 districts
Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that rain is likely to decrease in Odisha from today. The weather department has also issued yellow alert to six districts for heavy rainfall today.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, isolated heavy rainfall (7 cm – 11 cm) is likely to lash Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Deoghar, and Keonjhar.
Earlier yesterday, under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, a low pressure area was formed over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand. However, as the low pressure area remains active well away from Odisha and is slowly moving west-northwestwards away from the state, the impact of rain is likely to reduce over the state from next tomorrow.
Meanwhile, IMD has asked the fishermen not to venture into sea, along & off Odisha Coast, North Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours saying the rough to very rough sea condition is very likely to prevail over North Bay of Bengal, along & off Odisha Coast during next 24 hours.
Taking a serious note of yellow warning over the six districts, SRC has asked the collectors to be ready to face any eventuality and issued the following warnings:
- Districts under yellow warning to keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality.
- In urban areas, low-lying areas may have water logging and roads/drains may be submerged under water.
- ULBs musty keep the drains/storm water channels de-congested and adequate de-watering pumps may be deployed as per requirement.
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall recorded may be reported immediately to the SRC office.
- Advance for fishermen to be strictly implemented.
- Submit report on damage, if occurred due to heavy rainfall immediately for information of the govt.
