Odisha: Student’s father falls victim to cyber fraud as man dupes him impersonating as Principal of college
A cyber fraudster impersonating himself as a college principal has duped a student's father of Rs 23,000 in Umerkote area of Nabarangapur district in Odisha.
Umerkote: A cyber fraudster impersonating himself as a college principal has duped a student’s father of Rs 23,000 in Umerkote area of Nabarangapur district in Odisha.
According to information, Laxman Santa, who had applied for his son Pintu Santa’s Plus Two admission, received a call from an unknown number at 4 PM yesterday.
The caller identified himself as the Principal of Pendrani Mahavidyalaya in Umerkote and told him (Laxman) that the last date for admission of his son is today (Yesterday). He also sent a QR code and asked Laxman to send the admission money through Phone Pay.
After Laxman sent Rs 6569 rupees, the cyber fraudster called again and said him that the money did not come and requested to send it again. Due to this, Laxman again sent Rs 6569 again by scanning the same QR code. Later, the caller demanded Rs 5000 for the uniform, so Laxman sent 5000 rupees twice.
This morning at around 8 AM, the cyber fraudster called again and said that if Laxman did not send Rs 2000, then his son would not be admitted. Suspecting something fishy, Laxman went to the Pendrani Mahavidyalaya in Umerkote and met the principal over the demand of money.
It is only after meeting the real principal of Pendrani Mahavidyalaya Laxman realized that he had fallen victim to cyber fraud. Later he filed a complaint at Umerkote police station and demanded an investigation.
