Odisha State Election Commission adds around 7000 polling booths

The Odisha State Election Commission has reportedly added around 7000 polling booths ahead of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state.

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Election Commission has reportedly added around 7000 polling booths ahead of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state.

Informing about the development, Chief Electoral Officer and Special Secretary Sushanta Kumar Mishra said that “Preparatory activities for SIR have been going on for quite some time now. For the last five months, we have been engaged in many activities related to SIR and its preparation. As a first step, towards that we carried out the rationalization of polling stations, around 7,000 polling stations have been added to the approximately 36,000 polling stations that we already had.”

“BLOs also have been appointed for those polling stations. They have been identified, they have been trained and oriented and we have given them appointment letters to them. The BLOs are in place,” he mentioned adding that the sole aim of adding the polling booths is to ensure that there are below 1200 voters in each polling booth across the state.

He further said that apart from that there was an important activity related to the conversion of data of SIR electoral rolls in 2002, that is also being completed. The data of 2002 electoral rolls have been integrated with 2025 rolls. Because basically they are to be mapped. Now we have met almost 70 percent of

According to Mishra, there is no need for correction of the people whose names were there in the 2002 voter’s list. However, verification will be done for others. They need to provide certain documents for during the verification process.

The State Election Commission, Odisha, is almost prepared for the SIR and is hopeful that it ends smoothly.
