Odisha Secures 6 New PG Medical Seats in Koraput and Puri Hospitals

Odisha’s medical education system just got a notable upgrade. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences in New Delhi has added six new postgraduate medical seats to the state. These extra spots are split between two key regional hospitals, both focused on areas that need specialists in maternal and child care.

Here’s how it breaks down: Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput grabbed approval for four fresh DNB seats in its obstetrics and gynecology department. At the same time, the District Headquarters Hospital in Puri secured two new MBBS diploma seats in pediatrics.

The state’s health and family welfare department underscored the importance of putting these new seats in regions that could use the help. Officials say this move directly reinforces healthcare delivery and boosts the core medical infrastructure in the coastal districts and the KBK area (Kalahandi-Bolangir-Koraput)—regions that often struggle with resource gaps. The ultimate goal is to balance out the patient-doctor ratio and make sure mothers and kids in these places get the specialized care they need.
