Bhubaneswar: Odisha government today notified the guidelines for Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana to ensure that marriages, especially in economically weaker families, are conducted with dignity, cultural respect, and legal compliance.

As per the guideline, the State government will provide Rs 51,000 in total support to eligible brides under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana. This includes Rs 35,000- Direct Benefit Transfer, Rs 10,000-Wedding Gift Kit (saree, bangles, anklets, toe rings) and Rs 6,000- Event support for community marriage arrangement.

The key objectives of the Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana is to support low-income families in conducting dignified weddings, encourage widow remarriage, prevent child marriages, discourage dowry and ensure legal and timely marriage registration.

Who can apply?

  • Residents of Odisha: Both bride and groom must be permanent residents.
  • First-time marriage preferred, but widow remarriage is fully eligible.
  • Only one eligible woman per family can receive support. Neither family should have received marriage assistance from any other State or Central scheme.

Age eligibility:

  • Bride: 18–35 years
  • Groom: 21–35 years

Priority Order (when applications exceed district quota):

  • Widows seeking remarriage Persons with Disabilities (PwDs)
  • PVTGs, Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC)
  • Applicants from low-income households
  • Others on a first-come, first-served basis

Coverage and duration:

  • Applicable in all districts of Odisha.
  • Operational from 2025–2026 to 2029–2030.
  • Applications will be approved as per district budget availability.

Application process and required documentation

  • Eligible couples must submit physical applications to designated district-level Implementing Agencies.

Agencies will:

  • Verify eligibility
  • Check supporting documents
  • Maintain records
  • Forward cases to the District Level Committee (under SUBHADRA) for final approval

The IAS officers and district authorities have been directed to ensure ceremonies follow cultural practices, maintain dignity, and uphold all legal norms, including mandatory registration.
