Odisha govt relaxes norms for promotion of Police SI to Inspector

Bhubaneswar: In a major decision, the Odisha government today relaxed the eligibility criteria for the promotion of Police Sub-Inspector (SI) to Inspector for this year.

The Home Department of the State government has issued a notification in this regard. As per the notification, the government has relaxed the norms for promotion of the police officers by reducing the promotion period. Thus, the Police SIs will now be promoted as Inspectors after 7 years of service. Earlier it was 10 years.

“After careful consideration of the proposal from the State Police Headquarters in Cuttack, the Government has decided to relax the eligibility criteria outlined in Rule 650(a)(ii) of the Orissa Police Manual. On a one-time basis, the required continuous service for Sub-Inspectors of Police, after completing the S.I. training course, is reduced from 10 years to 7 years as on 01.01.2024, for consideration for promotion to the rank of Inspector,” read the notification.

The decision will come into effect immediately, said the notification adding that the Sub-Inspectors who have completed seven years of service from January 1, 2024 will be promoted as Inspectors.

The latest decision of the government will immensely benefit the Police SIs who are waiting for their promotions.
