Odisha CM Forms Probe Panel over Textbook Error; Demands Report in 7 Days

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, after finding major mistakes in the new state government textbooks, called for a high-level investigation. Expressing deep concern over how these inaccuracies compromise the credibility of the state’s education system, He ordered officials to fix the issues right away and said anyone responsible for administrative negligence would face strict punishment.
This all happened after a key review meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, which the Chief Minister led. The meeting was virtual but still packed with senior officials like School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond and Chief Secretary Anu Garg. CM Majhi told the School and Mass Education Department to completely overhaul their textbook preparation process and set up tough quality checks so these problems don’t happen again.
To make sure everyone’s held accountable, the Chief Minister set up a three-member high-level committee, chaired by the state’s Development Commissioner. Their main job is to figure out exactly who—whether officials, agencies, or institutions—let these proofreading and publication errors slip through. The committee has just seven days to investigate and file a detailed report, and after that, people at fault can expect immediate administrative action.
The sheer number of mistakes has left teachers and parents stunned. Across textbooks for Classes I to VIII, they found 1,678 different errors.
