Odisha: Attack on police in Mayurbhanj following group clash

Mayurbhanj: Attack on the police in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha during the commotion over land acquisition related group clash. The incident has been reported from Tumulkand in Belpal village under Badasahi police station of Mayurbhanj.

According to reports, the conflict was centered around a long standing land acquisition dispute. In relation to this incident, the villagers blocked the Badsahi – Bentanti road for a long time. As the administration tried and failed to stop them the SDPO Sudarshan Das and Badasahi IIC Umesh reached the spot along with the police force.

However it is worth mentioning that, the road blockers attacked them. The police van was crushed and many people including two police officers were injured. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital.

According to the information, Prabodh Bhuinya of Belpal village took a loan by mortgaging the land in the local bank. However, due to repeated defaults in repayment of the loan, the said land was auctioned by the bank authorities.

In protest, Prabodh approached the court and the court ruled in his favour. So this morning Prabodh went to fence his land. However, the land auctioneer and his brothers opposed it. There was an argument between both the parties and there was a scuffle. The police has initiated a detailed probe into the matter. Further detailed reports awaited.
