Cuttack: There has been a nominal fall in potato prices as six potato laden trucks arrived at Chatrabazar in Cuttack on Monday. Amid high price of potato in Odisha, there potato-laden trucks at the godown are a sigh of relief for the people.
Meanwhile due to these trucks price of potatoes declined a little in Odisha, ranging from Rs 40-45 per kg. But the government directive to retailers to not sell potatoes beyond Rs 32 per kg seems to have fallen on deaf years. The retailer today claimed they are buying a sack of potatoes for Rs 1400 from wholesalers.
In addition to the above info, it is worth mentioning that the West Bengal government on Sunday installed CCTV cameras to keep a track on the movement of potato laden trucks along its border.
Several potato-laden trucks were coming to Odisha through various illegal routes by giving bribes at various check points. The potato crisis took place after West Bengal government directed to halt the supply of potato in the state.
The West Bengal decide to install CCTV cameras along the Odisha-West Bengal border to restrict the movement of the truck carrying potatoes.Meanwhile, the Odisha government has provided three kg potatoes at Rs 100 to the people. They have instructed to provide 3 kgs of potatoes to all ration card holders and other people.
