Navratri in full swing at Maa Biraja’s shrine in Jajpur

Jajpur: As the Navratri of Maa is going on, Shakti Peeth’s have turned lively. Today marks the seventh day of Navratri.

Be it Birja’s Peetha or Charchika’s Peeths, the Mahayajna is being performed at all places. For this, the Peetha of Goddess Maa Birja, the presiding deity of Jajpur, is in full swing.

Holy water was carried from the Baitarani river early in the morning and the Maa is bathed. During the Navratri period, devotees enter the sanctum santorum of Maa Biraja for nine days and get the opportunity to touch her feet and have a glimpse of her face.

For this, a long line of thousands of devotees can be seen. While the Homa Yagya with the sixteenth Upachar Puja of Maa Birja continues at night, the Navadivasya Rath Yatra of Maa Birja has started from Pratipada. Next Tuesday, there is a tradition of performing fasts along with the eighth day of Puja. From the ninth day, there will be a game of sindoor in Bengali medhs along with Sandhipuja. Amish is consumed at some Mandapams and distributed to the devotees. The entire city trembles at the recitation of Goddess Durga’s mantra.
