Names missing in electoral roll: Angry locals take Patrapur BDO hostage

Berhampur: Expressing their annoyance and anger over their names missing in the electoral roll, residents of Dhadiamba village in Tumba panchayat under Patrapur block of Ganjam district took Patrapur Block Development Officer (BDO), Prakash Das hostage on Wednesday.

The Dhadiamba villager had gone to booth no-3 in Andarasingi village to cast their votes for the ongoing three-tier Panchayat Election on February 20. However, they could not exercise their franchises as their names were missing from the voters’ list.

They reportedly informed BDO Prakash Das and asked him to take some action in this regard. However, he allegedly did not pay any attention to their demand.

Prakash Das was returning to his office after attending a school transformation program in Dhadiamba area when a group of villagers including women waylaid him and kept him hostage.

Later, they released the BDO after four hours following the intervention of the district administration and local police.
