Model code of conduct to be enforced today in Odisha, see what all it specifies

Bhubaneswar: The model code of conduct will come into effect from today with the announcement of the date for the general election 2024. This will remain in force until the election results.

It is worth mentioning here that, every political party has to be careful and aware about this. Because if the model code of conduct is violated the party will have to face strict action and the individual  may have to undergo a jail sentence.

Here are a few of the important rules that shall be enforced:

  • No government employee or official can be transferred or appointed when the code of conduct is enforced. If these are very urgent, the government can do something only after taking the permission of the Election Commission. State Chief Election Commission can change the rule as per the requirements.
  • If any political party or candidate wants to hold a rally or public meeting, then they or he need to inform the local police officer about that particular area before starting the rally.
  • No candidate or political party shall act in such a way as to entice voters. Threats cannot intimidate and frighten the public. If this comes to the public forum then, the candidature of the candidate may be rejected. He may be sent to jail with a case against him.
  • Ministers or administrative officers cannot make any announcements or announcements regarding financial grants at this time. There can be no initiation or initiation.
  • Similarly, the ruling party cannot do anything to please the voters. Ministers cannot use the government offices, rest houses etc. for election purposes. Cannot even use government vehicles in election work. Even religious places cannot be used for election campaigning.
  • Liquor shops will be completely closed 24 hours before the polling day.
  • No personal attack can be made against any candidate or party. Candidates cannot seek votes on the basis of religion or caste.
  • No election campaigning or voter solicitation shall be carried out within 100 meters of the polling station on the day of polling.
