Mobile Tower Fraud, Five Arrested From Bengal For Cheating Rs 9.84 Lakh

Rourkela: Cyber Police station in Rourkela today arrested five persons from Bengal for allegedly cheating Rs 9.84 lakh on the pretext of mobile tower installation.

Police said that the complainant Purnendu Sekhar Parida had received a fraud call in March this year. “The caller identified himself as a representative of a leading cellular company and expressed their desire to install a mobile tower on his land. They managed to convince him and later demanded money as processing fee. The complainant deposited Rs 9.84 lakh in phases and issued him a letter,” said a police official.

Later Parida went to the local office of the cellular company and came to know about the fraud. Subsequently he lodged a formal police complaint.

Police have seized 143 SIM cards, 234 bank cheques, seven laptops, 16 hard discs, hundreds of ATM cards, one bio-metric machine and cash of Rs 57000 from the accused. Police said that the gang is also involved in similar crimes.

“The accused will be forwarded to the court today. We will also bring them under remand to ascertain their involvement in other cases,” added the police official.
