Midday Meal price hiked by Re. 1, informs Odisha School and Mass Education Minister

Bhubaneswar: Midday meal price hiked by Re. 1 this has been informed by Odisha School and Mass Education Minister on Wednesday. The mid-day meal assistance will increase by Re. 1.

An increase of Re. 1 per meal will be made. The government has taken such a decision in view of the increase in prices of essentials, this information was further clarified by the Minister of School and Mass Education Nityananda Gond.

According to the information received, the government has decided to increase the price of the midday meal by Re. 1 per mid-day meal. The minister has informed that the government will make arrangements for this very soon. Now the government spends Rs 5.42 per meal per primary school child. It is Rs 8.10 paise per capita for high school children. As it was not possible to provide good food for the children with this money, there were complaints that the headmasters in charge were spending money from their pockets every month.

The state government has increased support to provide midday meals to about 45 lakh school going children of the state. Minister Nityananda Gond said that the quality of food for children can be increased by this.

It is worth noting that there was a long standing demand to increase the amount of midday meal  aid. There was often dissatisfaction with the midday meal due to low amount sanctioned. Finally, the state government is going to increase the amount sanctioned.
