Parlakhemundi: Mental stress leads to death of couple in Parlakhemundi of Ganjam district in Odisha, said reliable reports on Friday. The incident occurred in Keuta Sahi under Parlakhemundi police station.
According to reports, it seemed that the elderly couple had committed suicide by drinking poison. The deceased couple have been identified as Nabin Acharya and Basanti Acharya. They have been said to have committed suicide due to mental stress.
They were admitted to the Paralakhemundi district head hospital (DHH) late last night. According to available information, they had two sons one was living in Berhampur and another one in Parlakhemundi. But they were living separate from the couple, said reports.
Reports say that the deceased couple Nabin and Basanti lived in a rented house in Keuta Sahi area of Parlakhemundi all alone. According to the police sources, this incident of death of couple in Parlakhemundi came to light after their son Arun Kumar Acharya informed about the entire incident in the Paralakhemundi police station.
The police has reached the house of the couple. They are investigating into the cause of death of the couple. The bodies have been sent for postmortem. From preliminary investigation however it is said that the couple were under mental stress due to which they were forced to kill themselves.

One Vinod (43), his wife Zubi Abraham (37), and daughter Johan from Kottayam visited a resort in Karnataka’s Kodagu district. They checked into the resort yesterday and all of them were found dead in the same evening.
Bodies of Vinod and Zubi were reportedly found in a hanging state. As per the suicide note left by them, they took the extreme step due to huge financial losses. The preliminary investigation of Madikeri Rural police suggests that the couple had killed their daughter by strangulation her before hanging themselves.
Police have started an investigation into the matter and sent the bodies to the hospital for postmortem. They are likely to question the employees of the resort and family members to get some lead in the case.
