Mayurbhanj: Students of govt high school walk over 20 km to meet officials against injustice

Mayurbhanj: The students of Basipitha government High school walked for over 20 km to the Collectorate at Baripada. They were agitated over the injustice meted out to them, and decided to lodge their grievance. The students complained over poor quality of food and torture by the teachers in the high school in Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday.

As many as 116 students of Class 8^th and Class 9^th took this step and walked over 20 kilometers to lodge their grievances. They met the Sub-Collector in Baripada, District welfare officer and the Project Director (PD) of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA). All the students started off from their village at 12 am in the midnight. They reached this morning at the Collectorate and intimidated about their problems to the officials.

According to reports, the students staying in the government hostel were getting poor quality of food. The teachers were also beating them and verbally abusing them. This put their dignity at stake and the students marched towards the Collectorate.

They arrived this morning and met the officials who promised them to look into the matter. They also spoke to the Collector over video call.

The officials made arrangements for the students to travel by bus back to their hostel. The students starting at mid night from their hostel indicates the sheer negligence of the hostel in-charge. Investigation in this matter will be done said the officials.
