Massive fire breaks out at illegal firecracker factory in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A massive fire reportedly broke out at an illegal firecracker factory situated in Infocity area of Bhubaneswar this evening.

Though under what circumstances the fire broke out at the firecracker factory is yet to be ascertained, two units of firefighters along with the fire brigades reached the spot after getting information about the mishap and have started efforts to douse the inferno.

Sources said that a house owner at the Chunukoli slum under the Infocity Police station limits area was using the first floor as illegal firecracker factory and the ground floor as ladies hostel, where a total of 21 working ladies were reportedly staying.

However, the fire broke out today following a blast while some people were reportedly tying the firecrackers this evening. The intensity of the blast was so severe that the roof and walls of the floor were partially blown away. Even some pieces of glass also fell scattered inside the ladies hostel and on the beds of the tenants.

Fortunately, none was injured following the mishap, said sources adding that the house owner fled the spot following the fire mishap.

Meanwhile, the fire has been doused completely and the Infocity Police has started an investigation into the matter.

The fire mishap has shocked everyone as the locals and even the animates of the hostel came to know about the presence of the fire factory just above the ladies hostel only when the blast occured today.
