A Pawan Hans helicopter hired by the state government and intended to be engaged in anti-Maoist operations arrived at the IRB camp this morning with rations.
The initiative is being seen as a strategy by police to prevent loot of the rations by red rebels on its way through a 40 km-long waterway from Malkangiri district headquarters to the Chitrakonda area which is surrounded by dense forest.
However, talking to reporters on the use of Pawan Hans helicopter in ration transportation, Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena said it was merely a part of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in the Maoist infested area.
Notably, a group of armed Maoists hijacked a launch carrying rations for Kunturpadar IRB camp at Kathagada village in the district on October 16. After taking the launch to Orapadar village, they thrashed the driver brutally and decamped with the rations.
