Major fire breaks out at Paradip Nehru Bungalow fishing harbor, 10 fishing boats gutted

As many as 10 fishing boats were gutted after a major fire broke out at Nehru Bungalow fishing harbor in Paradip of Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district on Thursday evening.

Paradip: As many as 10 fishing boats were gutted after a major fire broke out at Nehru Bungalow fishing harbor in Paradip of Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Thursday evening.

Initially, one of the fishing boats, namely Pita Matanka Aashirbad, which was parked at jetty No 1 of the Nehru Bungalow fishing harbor in Paradip caught fire due to some unknown reasons, informed sources adding that the fire spread to other nine boats very soon as the diesel-powered boats were kept together.

Beside, several flammable materials like diesel, cooking gas cylinders, fishing nets, plastic things, tyers and clothes were there in the boats, informed the sources adding that each boat contains over 3000 littres of diesel.

On being informed, a the local firefighters and police rushed to the spot and tried to douse the inferno. However, the intensity of the blaze was so heavy that nine more teams of the fire services including that of Paradip Port, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL) and cops from five nearby police stations were deployed to control the fire.

However, till the filing of this reports, they were yet to douse the fire as the cooking gas cylinders and the diesel tank of the boats continue to explode one after the other.

A huge crowd of the local people had gathered on the spot and some of them were seen extending their helping hands in whatever way possible to the firefighters to douse the fire, the reason of which is yet to be ascertained.

Though no loss of life was reported, property worth cores of rupees is said to have been turned into ashes due to the fire mishap.

Currently, there are over 50 big boats and 400 small boats at the Nehru Bungalow fishing harbor in Paradip.
