Mahaprasad will not be sold online: Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan
Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Monday confirmed that the Odisha Government and Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) have decided not to sell Mahaprasad online.
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Monday confirmed that the Odisha Government and Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) have decided not to sell Mahaprasad online.
During a media interaction, Harichandan informed that the sanctity and spiritual significance of the Mahaprasad of Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri are very different from any other temple in the country.
“Recently, some organisations had given proposals to the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) to sell dried bhog and Mahaprasad online to make it accessible to devotees across India and abroad,” he said adding that the online sale of the Mahaprasad would have helped the uncountable devotees across the globe to avail it but the State government and SJTA categorically rejected the proposals citing concerns that such online sales could compromise the purity the Mahaprasad.
The Law Minister also urged other temple administration not to entertain the online sale of the Prasad. “Our appeal to the devotees would be- come to Puri and receive the Mahaprasad in person. Neither we have any proposal nor will allow anyone to sell Mahaprasad online like any other food products,” he state.
“We also urge the other temple administration not to have any proposals or plan for the online sale the Mahaprasad like any other food materials of a hotel or restaurant. It is the Hindu tradition that those who come to the temple will receive the Prasad,” Harichandan clarified.
The Minister further said that a revised rate chart for Abhada will be implemented soon, following the conclusion of a recent meeting on the matter.
It is to be noted here that some media reports had revealed the sacred ‘Abadha Mahaprasad’ of Lord Jagannath was allegedly being sold online without authorisation.
