Lucky escape for 50 as bus gets stuck on bridge pillar

bus accidentDeogarh: A major road mishap was averted at Barkote village in the district on Monday when a bus carrying about 50 passengers skidded off a river bridge but remained hanging for hours. The passengers were safely evicted from the bus with the help of locals.

The incident took place this morning when the driver of the Rourkela bound bus from Bhubaneswar namely ‘Ispat’ (Registration Number OD 05 L 6288) lost control over the wheels causing the vehicle to hit a river bridge wall under Barkote Police limits and got stuck in the pillars. Around 50 passengers aboard the bus were left panic-stricken following the incident. But as the vehicle did not fall into the river, some locals immediately swung into action and rescued the passengers.

Soon aftergetting information on the accident, Barkote police reached the spot. Efforts were on to release the bus stuck in the broken bridge wall with the help of a Haiwa when this report was being filed.
