Bhubaneswar: The last rites of the Padmashree Kamala Pujari will be held with national honour today. The last rite will be held at Patraput village in Odisha’s Koraput district.
Condoling the passing away of the Padma awardee, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said, “I am saddened to hear about the demise of Padmashri Kamala Pujari. Praying to Lord Srijagannath for the repose of his immortal soul. Her contribution to environmental protection and women empowerment will be remembered forever.”
It is worth mentioning here that Pujari breathed her last at 5.45 am following a cardiac arrest. On Thursday, she was rushed to Cuttack from District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Jeypore of Koraput after her condition deteriorated. She was admitted to the ICU of SCB Medical College and Hospital.
Notably, Kamala Pujari came to the limelight for harvesting nearly 100 types of rice using biological methods. She was honored with the Padmashree for her contribution to agriculture in 2019 by the then President Ram Nath Kovind.
