Know about the sacred Suna Kupa from where water is drawn for Deba Snana Purnima
For Snana Yatra- 35 pitchers of water will be used for Lord Jagannath, 33 for Lord Balabhadra, 22 for Devi Subhadra and 18 for Sudarshan.
Puri: Today is the auspicious Deba Snana Purnima. The city of Puri has turned lively as thousands of devotees thronged to the Bada Danda to witness the bath of the Trinity Siblings.
The rituals have already begun and the Lords will bathe in 108 pitchers of fragrant water that will be drawn from the Suna Kupa (golden well). This water is stocked from a year ago. Out of the 108 pitchers of water, 35 pitchers will be used for Lord Jagannath, 33 pots for Lord Balabhadra, 22 for Devi Subhadra and Shree Sudarshan will be bathed with 18 pitchers of the water from Suna Kupa.
Where is the Suna Kupa? Let’s know about the folklore
There are several wells in the Srimandir. The well present in the North gate near Maa Sitala is called the Suna Kupa. The water from this well is used only for the Snana (bath) and it is not used for any other purpose.
The water of this well is also very special. The water of this well is used only once a year during the Deba Snana Purnima. There is no information as to why the water from this well is not used for other purposes.
It is believed that before the Snana yatra, the water from all pilgrim places in Odisha are mixed in the well. After the Snan Yatra the water from the well disappears miraculously.
