Knee-deep water has been seen in Basta police station as the Jalaka river swelled in Balasore district of Odisha
Basta: In a major development, knee-deep water has flooded the Basta police station as the Jalaka river has swelled in Balasore district of Odisha and is flowing over the danger mark.
Due to the overflowing of Jalka River, flood water is flowing at almost three feet inside the Basta Police Station and SDPO office, due to which the police officers and employees working in the police station are facing a lot of problems.
It is worth mentioning here that when water enters the police station, important files and papers are kept at a higher place. People who come to the police station to file complaints face a lot of difficulty.
Flood threat in Jalaka River has been experienced yet again. Due to low pressure related rainfall, the water level of Jalaka River is gradually increasing. The water level is gradually increased and crossed the danger mark.
It is worth mentioning that, while the danger mark is 6.50 meters at the mouth of the river, the warning mark is at 6.00 meters. By 7 am, the water level has increased and is flowing at 6.80 meters.
The water level is increasing due to heavy rain in the upper catchment area of the Jalaka River in Rasgobindpur, Morda, Shuliapada, Chitrad etc. areas of Mayurbhanj district.
As the water level of the river is gradually increasing, it is expected that there will be a flood-like situation again. The area was affected by floods a few days ago, this had destroyed the paddy fields on hundreds of hectares of land.
It is feared that if there is a flood again then as many as eight panchayats of Basta block and two panchayats of Sadar block will be affected. People of the river area are afraid as the embankments are weak in various places.
