Boudh: The Khurda Road-Balangir new rail line project achieved a major milestone today as the breakthrough ceremony of Odisha’s longest tunnel, 4185 meter Adenigarh-Charichhak tunnel, was held.
Notably, the Khurda-Balangir railway project has a total of 7 tunnels, of which 3 are in Nayagarh district and the rest 4 are in Boudh district.
Out of the four tunnels of the project in Boudh district, the breakthrough of three tunnels was held early. However, the work of Adenigarh-Charichhak tunnel, which is also the longest tunnel in the East Coast Railways (ECoR) jurisdiction, was hampered due to loose soil. But today its official breakthrough ceremony was held.
The breakthrough ceremony was formally held by putting on the switch and blasting in the presence of many officials of the East Coast Railways including the General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal, Chief Engineer, CEO, Deputy Chief Engineer of the East Coast Railway Division, Vice Chairperson of the contract company GIRL, which took over the tunnel work.
Ever since the commencement of the construction of the Adenigarh-Charichhak tunnel, the workers and the officials carried out the work on war footing for almost two years and completed it without any mishap.
With the openings of both the ends of the Adenigarh-Charichhak tunnel, the concrete works likely to begin soon with the aim to spread the rail tracks on the route following which train will run on the Khurda-Balangir railway project.
It is to be noted here that the Khurda-Balangir railway project will connect the East Odisha with the Western Odisha through the Adenigarh-Charichhak tunnel, which goes about 80 meters below the ground, said sources.
