Jajpur: In a tragic incident, a Kanwariya reportedly lost his life after drowning in Baitarani river near the Ballabhi ghat in Jajpur district on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Prasanta Samal, a resident of Purshottampur area under Bhandaripokhari block of Jajpur district.
As per reports, Prasanta had come to Ballabhi ghat in Baitarani river to fetch water and pour on Lord Shiva on the second monday of Shravan month.
On seeing him drowning, another Kanwariya Manmath Samal jumped into the river to save him. On seeing him drowning, the local immediately rescued him from the water flowing.
Meanwhile, Jajpur police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. They have also started a probe into the matter.
