Kamakhya express derailment: Commissioner Railway Safety to probe, ex-gratia announced
The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5,00,000 for the next kins of Suvankar Roy, who died due to the derailment of 12551 Bangalore-Kamakhya AC SF Express near Nergundi Station in Odisha today.
Bhubaneswar: The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) will conduct a detailed inquiry into the derailment of 12551 Bangalore-Kamakhya AC SF Express which occurred near Nergundi Station in Odisha earlier today, informed the East Coast Railway (ECoR).
Efforts are underway to restore normalcy to the affected routes as soon as possible and safety protocols have been strictly followed during the rescue operations, said the ECoR while extending heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased person who lost his life due the train mishap. It also wished the injured passengers a speedy recovery.
The East Coast Railway also shared the following details:
Casualties and injuries:
- Suvankar Roy, Male, 22 years, lost his life in the incident.
- One female passenger suffered grievous injury and two other male passengers are being treated for simple injury.
Ex-gratia:
- Ex-gratia of amount Rs 5,00,000 has been announced to the next to the kins of the deceased.
- Similarly, Rs 2,50,000 for grievous and Rs 50,000 for minor injured persons.
- Immediate medical assistance have been provided to the injured passengers, and the necessary compensation has been paid to the victims’ families.

Mail Express Trains are running in the Howrah-Visakhapatnam UP Line. Down Line trains are diverted via Barang-Naraj-Kapilas Road instead of the usual Barang-Cuttack-Nergundi route:
