Kalbaisakhi in Western Odisha: 3 dead, 2 critical due to thunderstorm

Bhubaneswar: As many as six districts in western Odisha have been experiencing unbearable heat, while nine districts are experiencing Kalbaisakhi with heavy rain and thunderstorm.

Reportedly, three people have been killed while two have sustained critical injuries in the first Kalbaisakhi of this year.

The Kalbaisakhi has affected Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Keonjhar, Angul, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal districts.

In some districts of each of these districts, the wind speed was 50 to 60 kmph along with thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall.

The weather department has predicted that Kalbaisakhi may occur in 10 more districts where the thunderstorm is likely to occur.

In the next 24 hours, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj and, Keonjhar districts are likely to receive spells of rain and thunderstorms.

It is to be noted that the weather will remain dry from noon of April 8 to the afternoon of April 10.
