Jamun tree turns saviour for drowning youth in Subarnapur, rescued

A youth clung to a jamun tree in a bid to save himself, later on with the help of fire personnel he was rescued

Subarnapur: In a miraculous escape, a jamun tree played saviour for a youth, drowning in the Jor of Sangrampur Gram Panchayat under Subalaya Police station in Subarnapur district.

The rescued youth has been identified as Adarsh Pradhan of Sankirasira village.

According to information, the youth clung to a jamun tree in a bid to save himself. The locals saw and informed the fire brigade. On receiving information, the fire personnel reached the spot and started the rescue mission.

As per reports, six youth of the same village had gone to take a bath in the Jor river. While the 5 others swimmed to the shore, Adarsh could not and drowned.

He somehow managed to take hold of a branch and clung to it. His friends informed the fire tenders who rescued him.

In another incident a mother and her daughter have died by drowning in a village pond. The incident took place in Lamtaput block’s Balia village in Koraput district of Odisha.

Reportedly, the deceased mother and daughter have been identified as Namita Majhi and Sumitra Majhi, respectively. They were from the village of Araganda in the Nandapur block.

According to sources, the daughter slipped into the pond water while bathing. And the mother attempted to rescue her but ended up drowning herself in the process.
