Jajpur: Sr Revenue Assistant of Vyasanagar Tahasil nabbed by Odisha Vigilance for taking bribe

Jajpur: A senior Revenue Assistant of the Vyasanagar Tahasil in Jajpur district of Odisha was nabbed by Odisha Vigilance today while he was taking bribe for demarcation of land.

The accused Revenue staffer has been identified as Hemanta Kumar Terai.

As per reports, today, i.e., on 01.08.2025, a short while ago, Hemanta kumar Terai, Senior Revenue Assistant (SRA) of Tahasil Office, Vyasanagar, Jajpur has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance while demanding and taking bribe of Rs. 4500. This was the 2nd and final instalment of overall demand of Rs 5,000 from a Complainant to fix up a date for the demarcation of his land.

Accused Terai had received Rs.500 from the complainant few days back and was putting pressure on the complainant to pay rest amount Rs.4500.

Left with no other option, the complainant reported the matter to Vigilance authorities. Following this, Vigilance Officers nabbed Terai, SRA today, while taking rest amount of bribe Rs.4500 from the complainant. The entire tainted bribe amount of Rs.4500 has been recovered from exclusive possession of Terai and seized.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three locations linked to Terai from DA angle.

In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.20 dtd.31.07.2025 U/s- 7 P. C Act, 1988 as amended by P.C (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered.

Investigation of the matter is in progress against the accused Terai, SRA. Detailed report follows.
